Printing Details
Reprint. Hardback bound in light tan cloth with printed titling to spine. 18 × 11.5cm, 308pp.
This copy was owned by the young Quentin Blake, before he became one of the foremost illustrators. There is a gift inscription to Quentin dated Xmas 1944, and a typed ownership label by Quentin Blake to the front pastedown that reads "Quentin S Blake, 50, Hurst Rd., Sidcup".
Since its publication on 1927, The Charm of Birds was an immediate popular success. It deals mostly, but not exclusively, with birdsong, and is full of sensitive observation, beautifully written. Unlike most works of ornithology, it can be read for the pleasure of its prose alone. Illustrated with fine woodcuts by Robert Gibbings.
Condition
The covers are rather grubby but the contents are in good strong readable condition.
