Old Peter's Russian Tales
1938, a new edition with new note by Arthur Ransome
First edition thus. Hardback in dustwrapper. 20.5 × 14cm, 334pp.
A collection of Russian folk and fairy stories, illustrated with seven colour plates by Dmitri Mitrokhin. This new edition carries a foreword by Arthur Ransome, in addition to his original author's note of 1915. According to Ransome's biographer, Hugh Brogan, after its publication in 1916, Old Peter's Russian Tales was Ransome's "first indubitable literary success. It has never been out of print. Arthur Ransome's apprenticeship was over".
A good copy. The dustwrapper is chipped and rubbed to the edges and spine ends, and has been neatly price-clipped. The book is in strong readable condition, with a previous owner's inscription to the ffep and spotted foxing to the page edges.Sold
