The Common Objects of the Country
1897, with twelve colour plates printed by Edmund Evans
Sixteenth edition. Hardback, bound in full leather, the spine with five raised bands, contrasting title label and gilt decoration. Page edges and endpapers marbled. 19 × 12.5cm, 183pp + plates
A charming book on the animals and insects of the British countryside, from bats and toads, snakes and lizards, moths and beetles etc, and illustrated with twelve full page colour plates printed by Edmund Evans (there is one frontispiece and eleven at the rear of the book).
A good copy. There is some light surface wear to the joints but the binding remains secure. The spine is discoloured a little (it's brown, the boards are green) and there is some sun-fading to the upper board along the fore-edge (from 3.5cm at the bottom tapering to 1,5cm at the top). The contents are in good plus condition, with clean pages and all plates are present. School prize inscription to ffep.
