Poems & 1914 and other poems
Rupert Brooke's poetry, early printings in a fine leather binding by Bumpus
Early printings (ninth impression & twelfth impression), two volumes bound as one. Hardback, rebound in full blue leather by Bumpus with five raised bands and gilt titling to spine, gilt margin to boards and all edges gilt. 18.5 × 12cm, 88pp + 63pp.
Two early editions of Brooke's poetry bound into one volume, with frontispiece portrait. Poems includes his Sonnets, Experiments (Choriambics) and early poems, 1914 contains his war verse including, of course, The Soldier.
This is a highly attractive copy. The leather is chipped to the joints and has some darkening to the boards and one or two scuffs but remains in good condition. The book also has two bookplates to the front pastedown and ffep for the same owner (who seems to have put one in at the rear by mistake and removed it leaving a bit of a residue). The main body of text is in good, clean condition, with secure binding.
