First edition, hardback bound in the original green cloth with lovely gilt design to upper board, gilt titling to spine. 20.5 × 13.5cm, 271pp + 20pp ads.

A charming account of a couple, "tired of civilization" who buy a caravan to travel around the West of Ireland. Shamus was the horse... Illustrated with a colour frontis of wracking in Aran, and further illustrations of the Gossoon, the start from Carrick, Bellaveeney etc etc.

This book is part of a collection from the library of Alice Thomas Ellis, the author, who was fiction editor at Duckworth, the publishing house run by her husband Colin Haycraft. (Provenance: Trevanion & Dean)


This is a good solid copy but the spine is faded, the pages are lightly tanned and a little bumped to the edge but otherwise in good solid readable condition.
