A collection of essays originally printed in the Sunday Times from 1952 with a few originally written for the Spectator. The author had been a foreign correspondent in the U.S.S.R. When he returned to England, he set out to explore the "rich, rum variety of English life", unfettered by Soviet censorship. He travelled up and down the country interviewing people and reporting on events and ideas he found interesting. Among those were a flea-trainer, a ploughing match, a Soho strip-tease, and the state of the bowler hat. With 22 two-tone full page illustrations by Edward Ardizzone.
Condition
The book is in very good condition bar a little bumping to the corners. The dustwrapper has some edgewear but has not been price-clipped and is now within a protective sleeve.
