It looks at the shifts in societal attitudes towards dance and its role in cultural practices, and reflects on the historical perception of dance, emphasizing its cultural importance and how it has been viewed both as a serious art form and a frivolous pastime. The introduction outlines the contemporary renaissance in dance and the complexities of critiquing dance as an art form, exploring emotional expression and the relationship between the dancer and their craft.

Condition
A good reading copy. The blue cloth binding is dulled and rubbed, the pages have moderate foxing throughout (heaviest to the endpapers), and the title page is starting to loosen but is still well attached. However, it remains a rare first edition and is in good readable condition.
