Printing Details

First UK edition. Hardback in dustwrapper. 22 × 14.5cm, 128pp

"Three apples fell from Heaven... these are the words with which most Armenian folk and fairy tales end. Armenian folk lore has been handed down by word of mouth for many generations, but it is only within the last century that any systematic attempt has been made to record and preserve it. This collection of tales was made after a study of many hundreds, published at different times, in various Armenian dialects. The Armenians have had a turbulent history of over four thousand years. In spite of being invaded by Medes, Persians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Tartars, Turks and Russians, the ancient race of Armenians has miraculously survived. These eighteen delightful tales are living proof that the ancient Armenian folk lore has survived as well."

Condition

A good copy. The book itself has tanning and foxing to the prelims and page edges, but the main body of text is clean. There is a previous owner's inscription to the front pastedown. The dustwrapper is creased to the top edge of the rear panel with light edgewear and fading but remains good and is now within a protective sleeve.
