Illustrated with six etchings by the author, this is a collection of Irish folklore, legends and stories. Ghosts and the supernatural are found in the stories, though it's written in an entertaining manner rather than a record of folklore. The author was a Dublin-born songwriter, composer and novelist, and a portrait painter. The stories are: 1. King O'Toole and Saint Kevin, A Legend of Glendalough, 2. Lough Corrib, 3. MS from the Cabinet of Mrs. ______, 4. The White Trout, A Legend of Cong, 5. The Battle of the Berrins, 6. Father Roach, 7. The Priest's Story, 8. The King and the Bishop, A Legend of Clonmacnoise, 9. An Essay on Fools, 10. The Catastrophe, 11. The Devil's Mill, 12. The Gridiron, 13. Paddy the Piper, 14. The Priest's Ghost, 15. New Potatoes, An Irish Melody, 16. Paddy the Sport, 17. Ballads and Ballad-Singers.
