A catalogue of the paintings and drawings held by The Garrick Club in London, the private members' club founded in 1831 in Covent Garden. The catalogue runs to over 600 items, and includes work by Alfred Munnings, John Zofany, Francis Hayman, Thomas Gainsborough, and Daniel Maclise as well as many others. There is a lengthy biographical index of portraits. Appendices includes a list of works acquired since the 1909 catalogue, paintings and drawings not located, an index of plays (many of the paintings are of a theatrical nature as the club is in the heart of theatreland), and an index of artists. With six illustrations.
Condition
Very good, with just some tanning to the vellum spine. This is a good solid copy with clean pages, the only real fault is that there are numerous marginal annotations throughout (not affecting text) which suggests this copy was used for checking the catalogue against the actual paintings or for a valuation. All illustrations are present and all but one retain the original tissue guard.
