"No other body of workers has such a wealth of industrial folk-song as the miners, but this is the first time that a representative collection of miners' songs has been brought together in a single volume. The ballads, though often rough, are vivid and striking, and they include songs of home and countryside, humorous ditties, songs of courtship and marriage and colliers' festivities, as well as songs of boy miners and old men, strike songs and ballads of mine disasters. Some have the appearance of considerable antiquity, others are no older than, say, the great Gresford disaster."
Condition
The cover is a little tanned and marked and with a few small closed tears to the edges and front joint. The contents are in very good condition. Loosely inserted is a bookmark advertising A L Lloyd's Coal-Dust Ballads.
