First published in 1921, this was the best known work of German art theorist, historian and restorer Max Doerner in which he discusses the materials needed for painting, including preparation for easel pictures, pigments, binding media of oil painting, painting in oils, tempera painting, pastel painting, painting in water colours, mural painting, with two final chapters of the techniques of the Old Masters and the restoring of easel pictures. Illustrated with black and white plates but missing one.

A good solid reading copy, the covers have some marking and rubbing and there is some foxing to the page edges. As mentioned above, one of the plates is missing. However, a good copy and comes from the studio of an artist.
