Printing Details

First edition. Hardback in dustwrapper. 22 × 14cm, 176pp.

A comprehensive telling of the trial of Harry Dobkin. Dobkin thought that as so many people were being killed in the Blitz and then buried quickly, no-one would notice an extra corpse. He strangled his wife in April 1941 and buried her under the ruins of Vauxhall Baptist Chapel which had been bombed during 1940/41. The body wasn't discovered until 1942 at which point a coroner stated she hadn't been killed in the raid. This was mostly because Dobkin had used builder's lime rather than limestone which preserved the body rather than speed up decomposition. He was arrested and the jury took twenty minutes to find him guilty. The judge handed down the death sentence. This book is the transcript of the trial, including the cross-examination of Dobkin.

Condition

The book is in good plus condition for age, remaining in strong readable condition. The dustwrapper is a bit edgeworn and marked but still good. It s now within a protective sleeve.
