Alfred Scott Gatty (1847–1918) was a long serving officer of arms at the College of Arms in London and a successful composer. His most popular work was the four volumes of Plantation Songs, of which here are the first two volumes. Please note the language here is of the time and not something that would be tolerated today. Volume One contains: 1. Click! Clack!"; 2. De Ring-tail'd C**n; 3. De Ole Banjo; 4. Nancy; 5. Dat's Berry Queer; and 6. Good Night (Shine, Shine, Moon). Volume Two contains: 1. But Is It So; 2. Ding Dong Ding;, 3. Who Did; 4. Our Dinah (Beauty's Queen); 5. Dance and Song; and 6. Far Away Ober Dere.
A note to the front cover reads "The solos of these songs should be sung by a Baritone. The accompaniments for the Pianoforte have been written with a view of imitating the Banjo, and should be treated accordingly."
Condition
As mentioned, the pages sit loose within the covers. The cover to volume one is heavily sunned with some edgewear, and both volumes have the publisher's signature stamp to the title page. The contents in both volume is in good, clear condition.
