Second edition. Hardback bound in full black pebbled leather, simple gilt titling to spine. All edges gilt. 22 × 14cm, 258pp.

This is Scottish novelist Leitch Ritchie's wanderings along the Seine from the Valley of Andeli and Chateau Gaillard, through Saint Germain and Paris, to Fountainebleau, Champagne and Troyes. The book is illustrated with twenty engravings by J M W Turner (vignette to engraved title and 19 plates). All plates are present as per the plate index, but with some small differences in pagination.

Condition

Poor. The binding is rubbed to the spine ends, and the binding is split open at the engraved title page (the rear hinge is secure). The text is readable but the plates all suffer from foxing, but that's not to say they don't have considerable charm.
