"Ezra Pound, T S Eliot, D H Lawrence, Norman Douglas, H G Wells, Michael Arlen, Noel Coward, Oliver Messel, Cecil Beaton—Brigit Patmore was the friend of many outstanding figures in the artistic life of the twentieth century. Both as a frequent visitor to Violet Hunt's salons at South Lodge, and as one of the 'Bright Young People', she was a star, her beauty, charm, and spirited personality stimulating an ever-widening circle of writers and artists. In particular she was, for ten years, the inseparable companion of Richard Aldington, and it was she who saw him through the creative agonies of Death of a Hero. 'My Friends When Young' is no mere who's who of the arts in the first thirty years of this century. Brigit reveals a singular warmth of heart and perception in her Memoirs, which her son Derek has enhanced with a valuable introduction and a number of photographs never before published, Together they have fashioned a unique and rewarding book."
