First edition. Small hardback. Blindstamped titling to upper board, gilt titling to spine. 17.5 × 12cm, 89pp [2].

This copy comes from the library of Adrian Fortescue (1874–1923) the English Roman Catholic priest, liturgist, author, artist, calligrapher, composer, scholar, adventurer and photographer. A previous owner and friend of AF has annotated it as such (note, it is not signed by Adrian Fortescue).

Quite a scarce study of early Buddhism, with a description of its older beliefs, the Life of the Buddha, the Aryan path, and adopted doctrines (such as transmigration, karma, cosmology, wheel of life etc.)

Fair condition only. The covers are heavily mottled but the contents are good and in strong readable condition.
