This story was first published in 1871 in Volume One of Chronicles of Golden Friars, and has never been reprinted. It contains within it the famous story 'Madam Crowl's Ghost' in which an old woman (now a retired nursemaid) is asked to tell her charges a good ghost story. She tells them personal story: a bizarre event from her own childhood. When she was thirteen years old she was hired out as a servant to Applewale House, where her aunt was a housekeeper to Old Dame Crowl...

The book is in good condition, with secure binding and clean pages. The dustwrapper has loss to the corners and spine ends but is now within a protective sleeve.
