This copy has been signed and dated by Mary Kessell to the ffep. It has been additionally signed by Jack Beddington. Mary Kessell was a British figurative painter, illustrator, designer and war artist. She became well-known for her drawings of refugees and survivors of the recently liberated Bergen-Belsen. Jack Beddington was the publicity director for Shell in the 1930s for which Mary Kessell worked. He was also responsible, with john Betjeman, for the Shell county guides.
With eight drawings (frontis & 7 full page plates) by Mary Kessell, this is Osbert Sitwell's poem of a fisherman's wife and mother. The illustrations are incredibly stylish.
Condition
Good plus condition. The book itself is in strong readable condition, but has light comprehensive foxing to the title page and frontis and, to a lesser degree, throughout the book. It remains in strong readable condition. There's a slight lean to the spine. The dustwrapper has foxing and tanning to the edges, with slight loss at the spine ends, but has not been price-clipped and is now within a protective sleeve.
