Printing Details

First edition. Hardback, bound in the original cloth with silver printed titling to spine. 24 × 16cm, xviii + 762pp.

This copy has been signed Ben Weinreb (1912–1999), a notable British bookseller. He was buying and selling books from a young age and had offices in Bloomsbury and Great Russell Street. His catalogues became as important for reference as the books themselves, particularly in the field of architecture, and the history of London. He sold his entire stock to the University of Texas in 1968.

Vain Glory is one of the great anthologies. It reflects the direct experience of the men who fought, died or lived on against the odds from the Battle of the Marne in 1914 to the Armistice of 1918. Authors include Vera Brittain, John Buchan, Roger Casement, Robert Graves, Ernst Junger, T E Lawrence, R H Mottram, Wilfred Owen, Isaac Rosenberg, Henry Williamson, and V M Yeates, to name but a few.

Condition

This copy is in very good condition, with a little light rubbing to the cloth boards and some light speckled foxing to the pages' top edge. Otherwise the pages are clean and the binding secure.
