The Technique and Spirit of Fugue
Signed by Alexander Kelly, pianist and piano teacher
First edition, second impression. Hardback in dustwrapper. 22 × 14cm, 220pp.
Signed by Alexander Kelly to the ffep. From the library of Alexander Kelly (1929–1996), pianist and professor at the Royal College of Music. He gave his debut under Sir Thomas Beecham, and as a teacher his pupils included Peter Jacobs, David Owen Norris, Iain Burnside, and Jonathan Plowright. He married cellist Margaret Moncrieff, who also wrote two novels for the Chalet School series under the name Helen McClelland.
This book provides a more enlightened understanding of fugal writing, primarily based on the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Loosely inserted is a flyer for a concert at the Royal Academy of Music featuring the Harry Isaacs Trio, with some pencil annotation to the back.
The book is in good condition, with clean pages and secure binding. The dustwrapper is dulled with wear to the head and tail of the spine.
