The Savoy Declaration of Faith and Order 1658
from the library of early female minister, Rev Kathleen M Hendry
First edition. Hardback in dustwrapper. 22 × 14cm, 127pp.
Not signed as such but this copy belonged to Rev. Kathleen Hendry. Kathleen M Hendry (nee Hall, b. 1906) was an early female minister for the United Reformed Church, gaining the parish of Shaw and Heyside in Lancashire in 1931. She trained for the Congregational Ministry (her father was a Methodist minister) but has to resign her ministry when she married in 1938. She returned to pastoral charge after the death of her husband. The original receipt from 1959 from the Independent Press is loosely inserted.
From the dustwrapper, "Three hundred years have passed since the historic Savoy Declaration was first published. It is right that we should examine its substance in the light of present day belief and practice. The text of the Declaration is printed in full and contrasted with that of the The Westminster Confession. This new edition is edited by A G Matthews who provides an informative and enlightening Introduction, Daniel T Jenkins contributing a note on the theological content of the Declaration."
A fair to good copy. The book is in sound shape and in strong readable condition but has faxing to the page edges and prelims. The dustwrapper has tanning and foxing to the margins and spine, and is faded to the spine.
