It was started in 1937 and finally published 1956–58, delayed several times by war and his work on other texts.
Condition
A good set. The books themselves are in good, solid condition but they all have spotted foxing to the page edges and prelims, and a little bumping to the edges. The wrappers are all fair to good, with rubbing the the head of the spines, light overall wear, and volumes 1 and 4 have vertical creases to the spine. They have not been price-clipped.
