Printing Details

First edition. Hardback in dustwrapper. 22 × 14cm, 238pp.

Subtitled "The Story of Broadside Ballads, Chapbooks, Proclamations, News-sheets, Election Bills, Tracts, Pamphlets, Cocks, Catchpennies and Other Ephemera", this is a survey of a much neglected literature, the non-books of poor people that play a significant part in cultural, social, and political consciousness. These ephemeral sheets and pamphlets were the link in times between ancient folklore and the modern mass media.

Condition

A good reading or reference copy. The dustwrapper is sunned to the spine and a little knocked to the edges. The book is in good solid shape but has quite a considerable amount of underlining in pencil, though this is very neatly done and has little impact on being able to read to book.
