My Daughter Maria Callas
An account of the diva's life by her mother, with an original photographic print laid in.
First US edition. Hardback in dustwrapper. 20.5 × 14cm, 186pp.
Not signed but a previous owner has affixed a small number of images and a newspaper review to the first few pages, including an original photographic print (probably a press photo) of Maria Callas in Medea in London, 1959. This photograph is on glossy paper and card.
"No-one knows Maria Callas better than her mother, and in this frank and startling portrait, Mrs Callas performs a notable service by exploding many of the myths surrounding the most dramatic and controversial opera star in the world today". Includes accounts of Maria Callas' younger years in Athens during the Fascist and Communist occupations, and the teachers who trained her voice during her teens. Illustrated with photographs.
This copy is in good condition, but with some wear. The pages where extra material has been stuck are tanned but the main body of text is in good condition. The dustwrapper has a taped repair to the top edge and slight loss to the bottom edge. It has not been price-clipped.
