On March 9th, 1762, in Toulouse, a Huguenot merchant was broken on the wheel for a crime that he had not committed. “It is because I am a man,” declared Voltaire, that he undertook the defence of the unhappy Calas family. Edna Nixon's account of the case which, she states, produced a drastic reform of the French judicial system.
Condition
The book is in very good condition, the dustwrapper a little faded to the spine and chipped to the spine ends. It has not been price-clipped and is now within a protective sleeve.
