A fine collection of quotations and thoughts on all manner of subjects, arranged alphabetically by subject. The author, Henry Southgate (1818–1888) was a London auctioneer and who became known as an anthologist and compiler. This copy has a previous owner's name to the title page, Broomhead Colton-Fox, who was a well known solicitor and was killed by a passing train when crossing the line at Victoria Station on December 15th 1893.
Condition
The leather is scuffed to the spine, joints and board edges , and there is a bit of scratching to the gilt pages edges but the contents are in very good condition, bar some foxing to the prelims.
