This history of the South African Army on the Western Front was commissioned by the South African government and follows the history through from the raising of the brigade and early service in Western Egypt but concentrates mostly on the the major battlefields of France and Flanders with Delville Wood, Arras, Ypres, The Somme Retreat etc. Appendices cover artillery, medical and transport units, as well as honours won by the brigade. The book is illustrated with a colour frontispiece, as well as black and white plates and maps.

Condition

A good reading copy. The blue cloth is rubbed and marked. The contents are in strong readable condition but a few of the plates have closed marginal tears. The inner binding is holding though a little weak at the start of the book with the half-title page starting to work free.
