The Poetical Works of John Milton
1834, three volumes, including Paradise Lost and Regained
Three volumes (complete). Hardback, half-leather with marbled paper covered boards, gilt tilting, decoration and five raised bands to the spines. Top edge gilt. Each 16.5 × 10cm, 372pp, cxxxiv , 153pp, 334pp.
A good collection of Milton's poetry, including Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained, as well as Sampson Agonistes, Comus, Sonnets etc. Volume one has a frontispiece portrait and a Life of Milton by John Mitford.
Whilst this set in in good readable condition, there is quite heavy wear. The leather is scuffed to all spines and the pages have foxing throughout. There are previous owner's names to the ffep in all volumes, and volume 3 has a dent to the fore-edge. The inner binding is secure but strained a little in places. The books do also have a slightly musty odour which will go in time.
