Ornithologist, naturalist and oologist John Walpole-Bond's magnum opus, his three volume study of the birds of Sussex. Volume one covers the Raven to the Eastern Great Reed Warbler, and has twelve coloured plates. Volume two is the Reed-Warbler to Teal and has nineteen colour plates. Volume three studies the American Blue-Winged Teal to the Red-Legged Partridge, and has twenty-two colour plates.
The books are in good, solid condition but each has some spotted foxing to the page edges and the fore-edge of each board is some damp fading. Occasional spots of foxing and tanning throughout the books but the pages are generally clean and the bindings are secure. There is a previous owner's gift inscription to the ffep of volume 1. The dustwrappers all have fading and splash marks to the spine with a small amount of loss to the spine ends. The wrapper's have not been price-clipped and are now in protective sleeves.
