Printing Details

First edition, fourth printing. Hardback, bound in the original red cloth. 22.5 × 14cm. 628pp + 28pp appendix.

Joyce's final work, Finnegan's Wake is his masterpiece of the night as Ulysses is of the day. Supreme linguistic virtuosity conjures up the dark underground worlds of sexuality and dream. Joyce undermines traditional storytelling and all official forms of English and confronts the different kinds of betrayal—cultural, political and sexual—that he saw at the heart of Irish history.

Also included is a first UK printing of Campbell & Robinson's A Skeleton Key to Finnegans Wake (Faber, 1947).

Finnegans Wake is in good condition, with heavy sunning to the spine but contents in good, strong clean condition. The Skeleton Key is also sunned to the binding and has some heavy offsetting / tanning where newspaper articles have been slipped in but remains perfectly readable.
