Devon Shell Guide
The first Faber hardback edition of 1939 in the original dustwrapper
Undated . First Faber hardback edition. Hardback in dustwrapper, spiral bound cased in cloth. 24 × 19cm, 54pp
John Betjeman's Guide to Devon, here printed by Faber who took over publication of the Shell Guides from The Architectural Press. The book has 4 pages of coloured maps and numerous illustrations throughout, with eight full page on pale cream paper. The final page is a Shell advert by Edward Bawden, the endpapers are after Thomas Bewick. Rare to find in the original dustwrapper.
The book is in good condition for age, with a neat previous owner's name to the ffep. Some specks of foxing and finger marking but secure binding and all plates present. The cream cloth binding is good with a hint of tanning to the edges. The dustwrapper suffers a small amount of loss to the head of the spine and general edgewear, mostly to the top edge of the rear panel. It has not been price-clipped and is now within a protective sleeve.
Please note: Due to the recent price rise from USPS, we will be putting our postage rates to USA up for which we apologise but have no choice.
