This is Anthony Powells' masterly twelve volume sequence, A Dance to the Music of Time. Originally published 1951–75, the novels cover a period of fifty years from the early 1920s and describe the school days, youth, and maturity of the hero-narrator, Nicholas Jenkins, and his friends, including Peter Templar, Charles Stringham and the superb invention of Kenneth Widmerpool. Though primarily satiric in tone, they express an underlying melancholy about life and the passing of time.
The Folio Society has here produced a lovely edition, each illustrated with artwork relevant to the novels.
A good plus set. Volume 1 has some quite heavy surface wear and rubbing to the illustrated cover and some finger marking to the page edges. Volume 2 has a bump to the top outer corner of the upper board, volumes 3 and 4 appear unread. The slipcases all have a little shelfwear but are solid and remain in good condition. An attractive set.Sold
