Printing Details

First edition, first printing. Hardback in dustwrapper. 19 × 12.5cm, 252pp.

From the dustwrapper, "The Military Orchid introduced a new writer of unusual talent, and was widely acclaimed. Jocelyn Brooke's new book, though in no sense a 'sequel' to The Military Orchid, may be looked upon as a welcome companion-piece to the earlier volume—a set of variations on similar or allied themes. Childhood, soldiering and travel recur once more, but are treated from a wholly different angle. Brooke also covers a wide range of incidental topics including the neglected art of pyrotechny, Oxford in the twenties, minor Victorian novelists, Shakespearian illustrators, and night-life in London and Paris between the wars."

The books is in very good shape but has some spotted foxing to the pages edges and to the endpapers. The dustwrapper has slight chipping at the spine ends and some tanning but has not been price-clipped and is now within a protective sleeve.
