Printing Details

First edition, first printing. Hardback in dustwrapper. 19 × 12.5cm, 135pp.

From the dustwrapper, "Jocelyn Brooke's new book may best be described as and 'Autobiography'. Ostensibly, it is the story of a Quest—the contintual search for a rare, almost extinct British Orchid—but the story of the Military Orchid itself is a mere point of departure for a series of divagations, in which the author ranges freely over a wide field of experience, comprising such diverse topics as Co-education, Victorian Botanists, Christian Science, the Roaring Twenties, and Flowers in Literature. The final section of the book deals with Mr Brooke's experiences as a private soldier in the Middle East and Italy, and here, once again, the symbolic theme of the Military Orchid remains, this time ina very different setting. Belonging to no fixed category, The Military Orchid creates a genre of its own, in which style and content are subtly adapted to the expression of a personality at once delightful and unusual."

The book is in very good condition, with some light tanning to the pages/ The dustwrapper has slight loss to the edges, corners and spine ends but has not been price-clipped and is now within a protective sleeve.
