Exiles of Erin
Irish Migrants in Victorian London
First edition. Hardback in dustwrapper. 22 × 14.5cm, 276pp.
Exiles of Erin offers a compelling picture of the effects of urbanization on peasant migrants in a large and complex Victorian city, It traces the movements of Irish labourers, craftsman, and their families from the farms and villages of western and southern Ireland to the back streets of London. The author makes use of a novel interdisciplinary approach combining historical demography, folklore, sociological literature and traditional historical sources.
A good readable copy. The book is in very good condition, with a few spots of foxing to the pages' top edge. The dustwrapper is rubbed and bumped with a little chipping to the edges.
