Helene Vacaresco was a Romanian-French aristocrat writer who here collects legends and folk-lore from the peasants of Roumania. A voivode was a chieftan or Prince). She writes in her introduction that whereas modern life and civilization silence ancient customs and rites, in Roumania, there were still to be found. They are in the form of prose and poetry, and are from the Latin, Dacian and Asiatic, with some traces of Slavonic mysticism.
The green cloth suffers from patchy fading and comprehensive rubbing, and is scuffed along the top edge. The pages have some light foxing but the contents are in good, readable condition. Previous owner's name to ffep.
