A collection of 32 essays by Vita Sackville-West that appeared in her Country Notes column on both the New Statesman and The Nation magazines in the first year of the Second World War. Titles include: Belated Haysel, August 1939; Farming in Wartime; Teasing Bees; Sorrow and Compensation, December 1939; Dig for Beauty; Spring 1940; Lencten-Tid; and Bulbs for the Autumn.
This is a reading copy only but in acceptable condition. The covers are faded and marked, particularly the rear board. The book lacks the ffep but the main body of text is in perfectly good readable condition.
