King Kong, A Venture in the Theatre
The story of the 1959 South African musical
First edition, second impression. Hardback bound in green cloth with gilt titling to spine and upper board. 23 × 17cm, 78pp.
The illustrated story of the 1959 musical King Kong (not the ape!). King Kong (1959) was a landmark South African jazz-influenced musical, billed at the time as an "all-African jazz opera". It has more recently been called "an extraordinary musical collaboration that took place in apartheid-torn South Africa... a model of fruitful co-operation between black and white South Africans in the international entertainment field, and a direct challenge to apartheid."
A good copy, the covers a little dulled with a few small marks. The contents in good order, with a little tanning to the pages.
