The Casket Letters and Mary Queen of Scots
1889, a good reading copy of the first edition
First edition, hardback bound in the original burgundy cloth with gilt titling to spine and upper board. 19.5 × 12.5cm, xii + 193pp.
Scottish historian T F Henderson's study of the Casket letters, eight letters and sonnets said to have been written by Mary, Queen of Scots, to the Earl of Bothwell, between January and April 1567. They were produced as evidence against Queen Mary by the Scottish lords who opposed her rule.
A good reading copy. Whilst the book is in sound shape, the spine is faded and the inner binding is a little weakened but still holding. The title page has been annotated with a note about the author.
