Scottish Poems of the Sixteenth Century
Two volumes, the first edition of 1801
First edition. Two volumes (complete). Hardback, paper covered spine and boards. Each 19.5 × 11.5cm. xiv + 152pp , 380pp.
Sir J G Dalyell was a Scottish antiquarian and this was one of his earliest works. He collects many Scottish poems from the sixteenth century and here reprints them in the original language. There is a lengthy introduction, and the poems are followed by a glossary of Scots words.
This is a rare title and this copy is in good condition for age. The binding are dulled and quite heavily rubbed to the corners and edges. The pages are untrimmed and in some cases unopened (uncut). However, the text is complete and, despite some isolated and scattered foxing, in good order.
