A leather-bound limited edition of Merimee's novella, the inspiration of Bizet's opera
Limited edition (No 94 of 500 copies). Hardback, bound in half-leather with gilt decoration and titling to spine. Top edge gilt. 18.5 × 12.5cm, 142pp.
First published in 1845, Merimee's novella is unforgettable story of Carmen, a flirtatious, charismatic, and amoral gypsy who bewitches and emotionally enslaves Don José, a desperate man, into a tragic obsession. It was the inspiration for Georges Bizet's opera.
An attractive copy. There is rubbing to the edges and corners and some scuffing to the leather. The page edges are tanned, with a little isolated foxing but this remains a good, solid, readable copy.
