The sermons of Rev. William Archer Butler (1814–1848), an Irish clergyman and professor of Moral Philosophy. These two books contain fifty-two of his sermons on aspects of Christianity (eternal punishment, the daily self-denial of Christ, the mystery of the Holy Incarnation etc). The 1st series also contains a life of the author by Thomas Woodward, Dean of Down.
Both books have a previous owner's gift inscription from a Mrs Colston of Roundway Park to a Reverend Edward Thrupp. Roundway Park was a country house in Wiltshire which was demolished in the early 1960s.
Both books are in very good condition for age. The leather is lightly rubbed to the boards and gently creased to the spines. The contents are in good clean condition with secure binding and just some light intermittent foxing to the prelims.
