Sigurd the Dragon-Slayer
1934, first edition of Smith-Dampier's translation of the Faroëse ballad cycle
First edition, hardback bound in the original green cloth. 22.5 × 14.5cm, 207pp.
A translation of the Faroëse ballads of Sigurd the Dragon Slayer, the legendary hero of Germanic mythology, who killed a dragon and was later murdered. The book also contains Danish Ballads of Sigurd.
A good copy of quite a rare first edition. The green cloth is dulled and bumped to the corners, and there is a small ring mark to the rear board. The contents are in good order, there is a little lifting to the pastedown and an erased previous owner's signature but the book remains in strong readable condition.
