Set in Budapest during the First World War, this is a searing love story of two people whose lives are shattered by war. Newly married, Miette and Peter find their idyll is soon destroyed when Peter joins the army and is then taken prisoner. Their struggle to remain true to each other during their years of separation and torment leads to an ironic and devastating denouement in the icy depths of Siberia.

A good reading copy. The covers are dulled and rubbed and there is a slight lean to the spine. A previous owner has made some pencil marks to the rear pastedown.
