La Dame aux Camelias
1877, Dumas' novel that inspired La Traviata
Nouvelle edition, hardback bound in half-leather with marbled paper covered boards. Five raised bands and gilt titling to spine. Marbled edges and endpapers. 16.5 × 11cm, xx + 320pp. French text.
First published in 1848, this is one of the greatest love stories of all time. Dumas's subtle and moving portrait of a woman in love is based on his own love affair with one of the most desirable courtesans in Paris. Dumas dramatised the novel in 1852 to great success and it was Giuseppe Verdi's inspiration for La Traviata.
Good condition. The leather is rubbed to the board's edges and a little scuffed to the spine. The pages are clean with some isolated and light foxing. The inner binding is secure.
