A Touch of Earth follows on from Janina David's first volume of autobiography, A Square of Sky, and continues her memoirs from January 1943 to the Summer of 1946. "From the Warsaw Ghetto, she escaped to the first of two convents where she had to pass as a Catholic. The whole time she was hunted by the Gestapo, to whom she had been betrayed. Shielded by the nuns who at a moment's notice might have had to take her clandestinely to another convent, Janina grew up as one of this alien community. Against a background of deprivation and illness, the life of the convent with its prayers, services and ordinary school lessons, continued. The picture she builds up of girls in their teens at work and play, but constantly threatened by violence, is unforgettable."
The book is in good solid condition but with some light foxing to the page edges and margins. The dustwrapper has edgewear and slight lifting to the laminate at the front joint but has not been price-clipped.
