Raoul Wallenberg, Angel of Rescue (Signed copy)
Signed by Harvey Rosenfeld
First US edition, hardback in dustwrapper. 23.5 × 15.5cm, 261pp.
Signed and dedicated by Harvey Rosenfeld to the ffep (to Ed Runge, though I don't know whether this was the baseball umpire!)
The story of twentieth-century humanitarianism. Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat, issued countless "false" visas and other documents which were virtual life certificates that saved approximately one hundred thousand Jews from the Nazis in wartime Hungary. Then in 1945, as the war drew to a close, he disappeared after being taken into custody by Soviet military police. Wallenberg's fate remains unknown but it is thought he died at the hands of the Russians in 1947.
This copy is in good plus condition. The book has clean pages and secure binding, the dustwrapper a little creased and faded to the spine.
