Early edition. Hardback, full leather with four raised bands and contrasting title label to the spine. 17.5 × 10cm, 195pp.

This edition contains John Gay's 66 fables in verse with the first part running from pp1–108, the second from pp111 to 195, with a frontispiece portrait of Gay by Jameson. Gay's Fables were first published in 1727 and 1736.


The leather is rubbed to the edges and joints, and there are old worming holes to the margins towards the end, and one small hole running throughout. The pages are in good condition but age-toned, the inner binding secure. General age-related wear but remaining in strong readable condition. There is a selection of previous owner's names to the endpapers.
