Edith Sitwell's survey of "the great succession of English poetry of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries." Each volume contains a rich selection of poems chosen because of their intrinsic merits and they are illustrative of the development of poetry and a long essay in which Sitwell analyses the methods by which the greatest poets have obtained their supreme effects.
The three books are in very sound condition. There is light age-related wear, the cloth covers have some light mottling, the dustwrappers are tanned to the spines and each book has a previous owner's name to the ffep.
